Science at Blue Horizons
At Blue Horizons Knowledge Academy, science is more than facts and experiments—it's an invitation to explore the world with wonder and purpose. We combine two outstanding programs to provide a rich, hands-on experience for students in kindergarten through fifth grade:

Core Knowledge Science (CKSci)
A sequential, knowledge-based curriculum that builds deep understanding across life, physical, earth, and space sciences. CKSci ensures students gain not only exposure to key topics, but also the vocabulary and context to understand and retain them.

Mystery Science
Engaging, story-driven lessons that spark curiosity and guide students through scientific thinking with open-ended questions and simple, meaningful investigations.
Integrating the Two
Units are thoughtfully aligned from both programs to support one another. Core Knowledge lays the foundation with strong content knowledge, while Mystery Science brings it to life with hands-on exploration and exciting visuals.
For example:

In a unit on plants, younger students might explore what plants need to survive, while older students examine photosynthesis and energy transformation.

When learning about the human body, primary learners may study the five senses, while upper-grade students dig into body systems and internal organs.
Multi-Level Learning with a Shared Focus
All students study the same science theme at the same time, but at their own level. This unified approach allows:

This way of doing science cycles through major themes so that each student builds both breadth and depth in science over their years at Blue Horizons.
